Sony DSC-S700 Cybershot
I purchased the Cybershot DSC-S700 for my wife. She loves taking pictures but isn’t into complicated gadgets. This camera is easy to use turn it on point and shoot. It has 3X optical zoom capability and additional features that will satisfy most photographers. I believe the Sony DSC-S700 is a great camera for the money and a wonderful gift for the amateur photographer in your family who just wants to capture the moment.

Very easy to use!
I’ve only owned Canons before, which I still love, but for the price and features of this camera, I thought I’d try something new. It’s very easy to use. Each setting gives you a little onscreen description without you having to dig out the instruction booklet each time. It’s point and shoot, takes AA batteries as opposed to lithium ones, and it’s small in size so you could tuck it right into your pocket or purse if you wanted. I’m still getting used to the settings myself, but with as easy as it is to review and delete the photos you’ve already taken, it’s not a big deal if I get one or two I don’t like in the process. Plus, the clarity of the pictures is fantastic. Great for a first time digital camera owner, or someone who likes to travel light on vacation. And after shopping around, Amazon had the best price.

I’m really glad I purchased this camera when I did because now I can use it to take photos during the holidays. And with the camera bag and battery charger that Sony sells for this camera, it’ll be easy to take with me, not to mention comforting to know that I can always recharge my batteries wherever I am if need be. Plus, SanDisk sells compatible memory cards for this camera at affordable prices, so you’ll never have to worry about running out of room for photos.

Great Compact Camera
This camera is great for simple, family and or just general shots. The only drawback is that there is no audio playback on the camera itself. Therefore after recording a movie you will have to load it to a PC in order to hear the sound. However you can veiw a recorded movie on the cam, just with no sound.

The Landscape and Macro modes are quite good as well as the program settings, its a great Cam for those wanting to start life in photograpy!

GREAT camera case

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 fits in this
I bought this for my Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3. It fits perfectly, and I can still get it in my pocket.
Cheap price, and is just what I needed.

Fits Panasonic TZ5 like a glove. The smallest case for TZ5!!!
I’ve tried them all and this is the smallest thinnest case for Panasonic TZ5 model camera. It just fits it. TZ5 is not a small camera and I was looking for something that does not add to its already sizable thickness.
This case was the smallest that I had been able to put on TZ5. TZ5 is a very popular camera from Panasonic. If you have been looking for a thinnest smallest case to cover it – this is it.

Fits well for Canon SD890IS
My friend bought the UNZ-2 for his SD1100IS and it fits absolutely perfectly for that. But since the SD890 is curved (and a little bigger all around), it was just a little too snug. It fit the UNZ-2, but just barely, and it felt like the case would wear down in time because the camera’s just obviously a tad bit too big for it.

The UNZ-3 fits very well in my opinion. The semi-hard back protects the entire LCD, whereas I don’t think the UNZ-2 covered the whole thing. If you keep the leash on the camera, it eats up a little more space in the UNZ-3 to make the fit almost perfect. There’s really not enough room for it to slide around, even w/o the leash. Not quite a perfect fit, but still very very good. Personally, I like having a little more space/slack rather than it being borderline tight.

Just FYI, even though the UNZ-3 is slightly big for the SD890, it doesn’t seem big enough to fit an SD card or a spare battery. (You might be able to fit an SD card in there, I haven’t tried it though.) Still, no regrets on the purchase whatsoever. Everyone I know who has an UNZ from Case Logic has had their cases for more than 1 year and are happy with the durability.

a great scope for air rifle competition
I coach high school and junior air rifle shooters and was looking for an inexpensive shooting scope when I came across this little gem. While the name sounds vaguely eastern European, this scope is actually made in China. The scope has a lightweight but sturdy fiber-reinforced composite body and a back housing that is encased in a generous layer of rubber for shock protection. A hard plastic cap screws on to protect the eyepiece and a hard plastic dust cover friction fits into the front to protect the objective lens. An extendable sunshade is a nice and useful touch.

The magnification is perfect for shooting competition targets at ten meters. (Be careful when comparison shopping as many spotting scopes won’t focus down this close.) We use it at the lowest 18x power setting and can see the whole target sheet while still viewing the individual bullseyes and pellet holes clearly. Like nearly all inexpensive scopes, the higher power settings are less useful as the picture darkens considerably and distortion around the edges becomes apparent. If you are looking for a scope for long range shooting or viewing, one with a larger objective lens would probably be a better choice.

Eye relief is good. Many inexpensive and compact variable power scopes have either a very short eye relief or a small field of view in order to save on the cost of manufacturing the lens elements in the eyepiece. With this scope, you don’t have to tickle the lens with your eyelashes in order the see the entire field of view.

The only knock that I have on this setup is with the case and tripod that come with the set. The case doesn’t offer much protection and the tripod is too small and lightweight to be useful. But then again, our school was able to purchase four of these scopes for the same price as a single “name brand” shooting scope with similar features. While I can’t vouch for its long term durability this scope is perfect for what we use it for. If it lasts for four seasons of shooting, I would consider it a great value.

Update 2-25-09: So far, so good! I would still recommend these spoting scopes. The scopes have held up well with no problems. We liked them so much, the school bought 15 more. We bought briefcase style, foam filled pistol cases to store them in and they work great. Three will fit in a standard four pistol gun case. We’ve taken them traveling with no problems. After two seasons, no cracks, leaks, fogging, misalignments, peeling or flaking.

I even found a use for the soft cases the scopes came in. The kids use them to store their shooting equipment including their slings, safety glasses, glove and other bric-a-brac.

Update 3-3-2010: Another season and the scopes are still holding up just fine. Only one problem has been encountered so far. On one of the scopes, the mounting nut pulled out of its base. The base is plastic and the brass nut appeared to be simply press fit into the base. Of course, the coach promply lost the nut before he could fix it. No matter. After carefully drilling out the base to a larger diameter, I just glued in a new 1/4 inch nut with super glue. The fix is holding up so far without problems. We use these scopes year round with our BSA Venture Crew shooting team and they see hard use by the kids. The rubber coating has held up well. I was concerned that the rubber coating would get tacky or deteriorate over time like so many other rubber coated products these days, but the rubber has stayed soft, flexible, tack and crack free.

Amazon stopped carrying these for a while. Glad to see that it’s back in inventory.

Excellant Scope
I was the captain of the varsity rifle team in college and used many quality scopes. Now I shoot pistol and wanted to get a relatively inexpensive scope for my own use. I read the previous reviews and selected the Barska BlackHawk 18-36×50 based on the reviews. I was extremely happy with the quality of the scope. The scope and tripod are perfect for indoor shooting and outdoor as well. The focus is very precise, the tripod handle locks down tightly, the optics are crystal clear, the carrying case has two compartments so you don’t scratch the scope and the screw on cover completely covers the eye piece totally protecting it when traveling. Also the tilted eye piece is very comfortable when shooting from a standing position…Just excellent…

good for the money
I bought this scope for use on a 100 yd rifle range to spot bullet holes from .22 – 50 caliber. It’s clarity and brightness at 100 yds. is good. Considering it’s price , you could say very good. A fellow shooter said it compared with his much more expensive Leupold. We didn’t do a side by side comparison, so I don’t know about that. It is simple enough to set up and focus. Included tripod is light weight and nothing to brag about but I expected that. It’s usable on the bench. The soft case is nice with a divider to separate the scope from the tripod. I’ve only used it about 4 times, so I can’t say anything about it’s durability. For my intended purpose it works well and I would recommend it for similar usage.

Looks great but has a flaw
The quality of the pictures was terrific. This frame is also very easy to use. I do agree with another reviewer that the user guide leaves much to be desired. I ended up returning my frame because of one issue that is a big deal to me. I absolutely have to have a frame that can show pictures in a random order. This frame claims that when shuffle is on that is what it is suppose to do but it does not work. I tried more then just my frame(even called and emailed kodak) and the pictures are shown the exact same way every time. I have too many pictures to have to sit through all the same ones every time to get to different ones. I believe they could fix this frame with a firmware update and I will keep an eye out because I would like to get this frame if they it.

Kodak EasyShare M1020 is an amazing piece of equipment!
Straight out of the box, this frame gave remarkable results. Inserted an SD card, turned it on, and presto, my photos never looked better. The touch frame is extremely easy to use, and very intuitive! Never looked at the manual, which turns out to be a good thing, since it leaves a lot to be desired. Checked it to see what “Shuffle” on or off did (never did find out) and how to get random picture display, which it apparently doesn’t do – thus 4 stars. But for bright, sharp pictures with a wide viewing angle, it beats any thing else I’ve looked at. Going to purchase an EasyShare M820 for the kitchen, and two more EasyShare M1020’s for my daughter and sister-in law!
Added note: From Kodak web site – “Shuffle” plays pictures in random order!!! Changing rating to 5 stars

BEST Digital Picture Frame. And I own 4 Different Ones
I really like having my pictures displayed on a digital picture frame. It is a convenient, space saving way to review thousands of pictures. Great entertainment in a small space. I brought one in to my elderly aunt to watch in her nursing home. She really enjoys watching the family photos, with hundreds of pictures cycling throughout the day. Sure beats TV! This is a great application for these picture frames.

But anyways, I now own 4 different model/different manufacturer Digital picture frames. This Kodak 10″ model is my most recent purchase and the best picture frame that I own to date.

What is wrong with the other picture frames? Some picture frames, the real cheap ones, seem to suffer from low CPU power. It can cause a long ‘blank screen delay between flipping to the next picture. This Kodak is quick, it will flip to the next picture as fast as you want.

The picture is large, brilliant, colorful and relatively high res. The specs say 800 x 480 but it really looks much higher than that. It scales pictures to fit the frame nicely. And the viewing angle is terrific, pictures are brilliant and visible even when viewing the frame from way off to the side.

The touch screen is great since it is on the front is very accessible unlike other frames that hide controls in the back. And I like that the touch controls are subtle, not noticeable, which would detract from the overall look of the picture frame.

One reviewer didn’t like the frame’s built in menus, but they are not difficult by any stretch. And really, how often do you use them? For me, not often. I set it the way I want with the desired transition & display mode. Then it’s just set it and forget it. I use Compact Flash for the pictures. Holds a ton of pictures on one inexpensive chip. I keep a few CF chips around loaded up with different pictures.

The Epson V750 is a great scanner. We bought it for film and slide scanning and have not been disappointed in its performance. It’s fast, has fantastic resolution (rivaling much more expensive film scanners) and will do multiple slides or negative strips. The “but” refers to the included software. The Epson scanning software is quite good, but I had hoped to be able to use the SilverFast package, which was supposed to be a full software package. Unfortunately, it’s a “crippled” application, lacking the ability to convert multiple slides in a single scan into individual pictures (which the full application CAN do). This was a major disappointment. So, hardware great, software not so much.

I am a big fan of Epson’s printers. But this scanner has been a nightmare. I bought it in June of 2008, and started scanning my vast archive of negatives. I soon noticed that there were color bands showing up on the right side of my images, detrimental to more subtle images with washes of cloudy sky, etc.

I called Epson, and they referred me to a service center. so I drove the 45 minutes and dropped it off. They spent a month replacing part after part, and then couldn’t test the scanner to see if it worked or not, and wanted me to drive up there and give them some negatives to test. Don’t you think a service center should be able to test a scanner? Wow.

So I call customer service and tell them that I am not willing to spend another afternoon and gas money to deal with their faulty scanner. Meanwhile, I had paid 700 dollars and hadn’t gotten a single good scan in the 2 months I owned it.

Epson wouldn’t give me a refund, and told me that I had to drive all the way over to the service center, pick it up, and ship it to them myself for a replacement to be sent to me. I begged for them to have the service center deal with it, and told her over and over again that it was unfair to make me spend more money and put more time into getting a scanner that worked. But they wouldn’t have it. So I was finally able to take a day off work and instead of using it for something positive in my life, I drove all the way up to Oakland (I was no longer living in the city, but further south, but epson didn’t seem to care how long it was going to take me to drive there, it was evidently my problem)

When I get the scanner home, I notice that the repair center didn’t lock the laser into place, so the whole car ride, it was unlocked. Strike one.

Then I made some scans, and the same exact problem was still there. 3 months after investing 700 dollars into this scanner, and still not a single decent scan. I began to wonder what it takes to get a functional scanner from Epson.

So I called customer service back, (and each time i called them, i had to take time off and spend an hour on the phone waiting on hold, explaining the whole situation again, etc) and they said I needed to speak with the same person I talked to before, so they had me leave a message. No call back. A week later, I call them again, she’s not here, another message, no call back. Now I have moved on to other projects, I am living in a different state, and I don’t have time to deal with them. I call back about 3 weeks later, she’s finally there!

She says that the service center should have given me a replacement and I didn’t need to pick it up and ship it to Epson myself! After making me drive all the way up to the service center and saying that I needed to ship it to Epson directly (she told me this about 20 times on the phone, because I repated over and over that I thought it was disrespectful and rediculous). And they still won’t give me a refund, and 5 months later, I still have not gotten a good scan.

Meanwhile, I have paid for gas, taken hours off work, paid for rental time and shops to scan negatives for me when I already paid for my own scanner.

EPSON HAS NO RESPECT FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS TIME. IS THIS WHAT IT TAKES TO GET A GOOD SCANNER FROM EPSON? AGAIN, I LOVE THEIR PRINTERS, BUT I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER EPSON PRODUCT. I have lost at least twice the cost of the scanner in the time and money I have spent trying to get it fixed, and having to go elsewhere for scanning services.

The scanner is GREAT! It’s only for people who want the best without spending thousands on a drum scanner. The software is a little tricky at first but there are “how to” videos for each step. It only took a little time to figure it out. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for the best and has some computer knowledge. You will also need a computer that is up to date because the software uses a lot of memory (RAM).

Be sure to warm up the scanner 30 minutes prior to use. Also calibrate your monitor, scanner, and printer with the software provided before you get started.

Our family wanted to transfer all the slides, negatives, positives, and such to a digital format. So far it has done a great job.
